The reason why some schools are designed like prisons is because it is more efficient and cheaper. They are easier to maintain and the stuudents can easily be monitored. Jus as you have said that highschools have a similar design with prison. Why are prisons designed ghey way they are designed.
Is education in prisons working?
Studies conducted over the last two decades almost unanimously indicate that higher education in prison programs reduces recidivism and translates into reductions in crime, savings to taxpayers, and long-term contributions to the safety and well-being of the communities to which formerly incarcerated people return.
Do prisoners get counseling?
A correctional counselor, or prison counselor, works in correctional facilities to help inmates work through their issues. This counselor will work with inmates one-on-one to explore mental health concerns, mindset issues, and emotional problems that may lead to re-engaging with criminal behaviors.

In most cases, inmates who do not have a high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate must participate in the literacy program for a minimum of 240 hours or until they obtain their GED.

Is there financial help for families of prisoners?
Several types of government programs can assist those in financial need, such as families of the incarcerated who have a reduced income. Programs such as the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program provide financial help to families with children who can’t meet their basic needs (see Resource 1).
